A little care starts with knowing your pair. Always follow the footwear maker’s instructions and the directions supplied with any cleaning product or accessory.
Check before you wash
Only machine-wash footwear when its manufacturer explicitly allows it. A wash bag does not make a hand-wash-only pair machine washable. Leather, suede and delicate finishes may need specialist care.
A gentle cleaning routine
- Remove loose surface dirt gently with a suitable soft brush.
- If the care instructions allow it, use a mild cleaning solution and work carefully on the affected area. Test any product on a small, hidden area first.
- Use a clean cloth to lift away residue without soaking the shoe.
- Let your pair air-dry as directed by the manufacturer. Avoid a tumble dryer unless the care label specifically permits it.
Fit accessories comfortably
Check any crease insert against your shoe’s shape and size. Do not force it into place, and remove it if it feels uncomfortable.
